ACATECH Aviation College has donated K20, 000 worth of medical equipment to Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA) Foundation for its new clinic.
The equipment include oxygen concentrators and disinfecting items, which will be used in MAMA Foundation's clinic, says Manolos Aviation’s chief executive officer, Jurgen Ruh.
“We are establishing a clinic at our Lae heliport for patients we medevac from rural areas. So it’s not going to be a long distance to get the patient from the helicopter to the operating theatre,” Ruh said.
“All these equipment will be well utilized in the clinic we are establishing, to give oxygen to mothers we medevac, and keeping the interior disinfected and tidy.”
The clinic is an initiative between Manolos Aviation Ltd and the Morobe Provincial Government. Ruh said the clinic is especially for mothers that are transferred from rural areas through the Mama Medevac Program.
“We have experience with hospitals especially when it comes to cesarean section.... operating theaters occupied, somebody else is in there, it takes time to process the patient to go so what we are trying to do now is we are trying to establish an operating theatre just for rural mothers only,” he said.
“Within rolling distance of a trolley from the helicopter, when the helicopter lands, the patients will be put on the trolley and pushed straight into the operating theatre.”
MAMA Foundation's long serving nurse Sr Audrey Taula said she was pleased and thankful to have received the new equipment.
“It’s going to be easy and convenient for us, once the clinic is set up,” Taula said.
“I am thankful because the unfortunate people out there need the best and proper care they could get,” she added.
The college’s Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Balma said the donation was done to support the work of MAMA Foundation and to assist the rural people in PNG.
He said that was the first time and the college would be doing more donation and provide more support especially to Manolos Aviation and MAMA Foundation.
