pr0899

In a dramatic turn of events, a young mother from Unak Village, (named), was

successfully medevaced on November 13, 2024, thanks to the timely intervention of

MAMA Foundation.

The 33 year-old mother was diagnosed with a critical obstetric condition of transverse lie and arm prolapse, placing both her life and her unborn child at significant risk.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, local health workers at the Waffa Sub-Health Center immediately initiated a medevac request.

A dedicated team of professionals, including Pilot Jan, Dr. Kalopei, and

Sr. Walker, responded to the call. Despite the new location, and thanks to locals

waving laplaps and making smoke, the team successfully landed to pick up the mother.

Upon arrival at Angau Hospital in Lae, the mother underwent immediate surgery to deliver her baby girl who weighed 2.9kg.

Both mother and child recovered well in the postnatal ward, and were discharged from hospital on Friday November 22nd.

The successful medevac and subsequent medical intervention have saved the lives of

both mother and child. This heartwarming story highlights the crucial role of timely

medical intervention and the invaluable service provided by MAMA Foundation in

reaching remote communities at critical times.
