Imane Mission Saves Unbooked Mother, Baby

The lone female head teacher of Imane Primary School Nosalyn Yalambing is a vocal community leader in her own right. Being a local from Imane, she has been helping the remote community for 13 years now as a teacher.

“The health centre is run by Nazarene Health Mission, due to some problems, health workers were not stationed at the health centre since late last year,” Yalambing advised medevac nurse Audrey.

“During that time, a total of 28 lives were lost due to the lack of medication and medical care. But issues have been resolved now and health workers should be available at the health centre by end of this month.”

Yalambing was the only communication between the remote Imane community and Manolos Aviation. Using a HF Radio that was installed at the Health Centre by the Nazarene Mission, Yalambing always call when there is an emergency.

“My husband has been down with flu for two weeks, we’ve tried herbs and steam bath because the health centre was closed,” she said.

“We left Imane Primary School and were on our way to seek help at Unank Nazarene Aidpost when people met us on the road and informed that a mother has given birth to a baby girl but the placenta is retained. We turned back and called you guys for help,” Yalambing told Audrey during the medevac transfer on 16th February.

“Because there is no health worker, and the mother delivered her baby with the help of village women, we were not able to verify if this is a retained second twin or retained placenta,” she said.

Yalambing thanked MAMA Foundation for the quick response and for always responding to emergencies from Imane. The last emergency was done in November 2023, a transfer of a 13-year old girl who was a victim of rape and sexual abuse.
